The Congruence model is one way to apply the Framework of systemic Organization in practice. This model has been used and tested with families who had a member in substance abuse treatment (See Friedemann, M. L. (1994), Evaluation of the Congruence Model with rehabilitating substance abusers, International Journal of Nursing Studies, 31(1), pp.97-108).

Thetreatment approach is appropriate not only for substance abuse patients, but any situation where families need to learn to function together (e.g. family member with mental illness, suicidal adolescents, chronically ill elderly). 

The Aim of the treatment approach is to build stronger families that will support the rehabilitated substance user or other patients and each other.
