Culture - Definition and Process
Culture is the total of human life patterns. It is lived in the family as traditions and values. Culture is what forms the stable core of a person and culture maintenance is a major aim of each person, family, or social group. Nevertheless, time, pressure from the environment, or changes in life situations (e.g. immigration) make it necessary for people to adjust and change their cultural attitudes and patterns. Culture, therefore, is an ever changing process, leading to culture transformation of old patterns and acquisition of new patterns that are then passed on to the new generation. In summary, Culture is a process, balancing maintenance of tradition and adjustment to life changes.
